When Teddy Picker’s opened in October last year it became a fast favourite for everything from early morning breakfast dates to long lazy brunches. On this particular visit, it was a long lazy brunch that found Steve and I at Teddy Picker’s.
Located in Campbell’s newest precinct on Constitution Avenue, Teddy Picker’s is a cafe that is serious about it’s food and drink, without being pretentious or losing that laid back vibe. Using high quality and often local ingredients, the food menu is simple but creative and changes regularly with the season.
Steven ordered the heirloom tomatoes with basil and melt-in-your-mouth burrata. Side note: If you haven’t tried burrata, you absolutely need to – it’s an Italian semi-soft cheese, almost like mozzarella but not, that has the most satisfying creamy ooze that bursts out when you first slice it open. It melts in your mouth and it’s absolutely delicious. Trust me.
Anyway, back to Teddy’s. After seeing it all over social media, I just had to try their French toast. Decadent, rich, topped with honeycomb and offset just enough with a tart blueberry cream. It tastes as good as it looks on instagram and is definitely worth that extra session at the gym.
On the liquid side of things, the coffee is good, their cold pressed juices too, but it’s their tea selection that is worth a special mention. The teas are from local company, Tea Garden Co, and the menu includes suggestions on how many times each variety can be re-brewed to get the most out of the tea.
The high ceilings and full height windows create a light-filled welcoming space that doesn’t feel crowded even when its busy. And Teddy’s is always busy. It was a Sunday, so we had a short wait for a table. But the loft space upstairs is the perfect cosy spot to enjoy a coffee while you wait. They really have thought of everything.
Teddy Picker’s is located at the Creswell apartment complex, 65 Constitution Avenue in Campbell. Open 7am-3.30pm weekdays and 8am-3pm on weekends.
